We had a rough week or two of getting Caroline to sleep. We have a very consistent night-time routine, and now she definitely knows when bedtime is coming. But lately she's been really unhappy about it. She'll start squirming in the middle of storytime and will just whine and then start crying. Then she would just cry and cry in her crib. Even with her binky. Even with her parents sitting next to her. Nothing helped.
Well, this week we decided to break her of the binky- in bed at least. My mom kept warning me that if we let her keep it, eventually we'd have to get up in the middle of the night to put it back in when she cried. So we finally just cut it out. We had a rough first couple of nights- with ~30 minutes of crying, even with me standing over her crib soothing her.
But the last 3 nights in a row, she has gone down without a binky and without so much as a peep. Its like we have a new baby.
And, get this... She SLEPT THROUGH THE NIGHT!! 8pm - 6am, no waking up at all. Hooray! I think it is the first time she's really, truly made it all the way through. It is monumental. If only I hadn't stayed up until 1am watching the Olympics, I might have had a good night of sleep ;)

Thanks for your very kind words, Maddy, and congrats on your little sleeper!! She is just so adorable and I love her expressions and her little curls. Sounds like you had huge success with binky withdrawal too!
A thought on the solid food - my mother was visiting when we were trying Jake on solids for the first time and she taught me to really shovel it in and to lift the spoon up as I retracted it so that the food was left in his mouth. It helped a lot! As does practice.
