We went to the Mystery Spot in Santa Cruz. I’d always wanted to check it out after seeing those silly yellow bumper stickers all over. Basically it is an area in the woods where people look like they’re standing crooked or where people will look taller than someone who is actually taller than they are (so my brother Todd looked taller than my brother Brian, even though Brian is probably 6 inches taller in real life). Who knows whether it is a gravitational anomaly or magnetic field or optical illusion, but it was pretty fun. I got super queasy in the crooked cabin, though, and Caroline seemed to get fussy in there as well, so we had to step away…
Mike and I also went scuba diving in Monterey. This was a ton of fun, except that the water was insanely cold and they forgot to give us hoods for our wetsuits, so my head felt like it was going to explode. But we got to cruise into the kelp forest and saw tons of starfish, sea cucumbers, and huge rock crabs. After we surfaced, we saw seals and cormorants on the surface just a few feet away. The visibility wasn’t great, especially when we started near the beach, so I made Mike hold my hand the whole time. He puts up with a lot from me!
We also just spent time around the beach house. It was so fun to go in the pool with Caroline and Aspyn. Caroline is really getting more comfortable in the water. She’s putting her head under the water without crying every time, so we’re proud of her. Mom cooked us some great meals, we played games in the evenings, and just relaxed together as a family.
After we left the beach house, we spent 4 days at my mom’s in Los Gatos. We got to catch up with more friends and family. I also had a spa day with my mom…aaahhhh! Thanks mom!... while Mike got to have a daddy-daughter day, taking Caroline to the park. On our last day in town, we left Caroline with my mom (to be paraded around town to all her pals), and went up on a trip to Napa to go wine tasting. That was a lot of fun- a romantic escape from all of the chaos of parenthood and traveling with a baby. We found a lot of great little wineries in Sonoma and Glen Ellen, and even got to hit the Sonoma farmers market on our way home.
