A mellow weekend at home

We were hoping for a quiet weekend, after our big trip to Montreal last week, and we certainly had that. Friday, Mike and I were both pretty sick and miserable- just an icky summer cold. To make things worse, Caroline's other bottom tooth started cutting through her gum, so she was cranky too. We got better over the next few days, but she's been pretty cranky all weekend. A little baby orajel and tylenol helped us get through the worst of it.

We did do a couple of things later in the weekend... We went out to Castle Island in South Boston. Its a big fort right on the water with nice views of the harbor. It was a gorgeous day and a lot of folks were out there. Our friend Tony came over to visit on Saturday, to watch a little football with Mike. He also got to visit with little Caroline, and we discovered that she's going through a new phase--stranger anxiety. She was just happy as a clam, until we passed her over to Tony, at which point she started screaming. After a few tries and a little waiting, she put up with it, but still wasn't happy about it. Hopefully she'll get over this phase soon!

Other than the teething, she's doing great. We're trying solid food every night now, though she still mostly just spits it out. We've tried rice cereal, and also tried mixing that with banana, but nothing really appeals to her. I think she just needs to get used to it. She's still at the borderline of crawling. She'll stay up on all 4's for a while now, and rock back and forth like she's going to go for it and reach out an arm, but then she just scootches back down to her belly or else falls over on her face. But she's still going far with rolling. I left her for literally 30 seconds and came back to find Mike rescuing her from gnawing on the table- about 5 feet from where I left her. Man, she's quick!

If you look closely here, you can see her little tooth peeking through. Also, you'll notice that she's the cutest child you've ever seen. Seriously, people.

Help! Who is this guy and why is he wearing that horrible Michigan hat?
We took a walk today and tried out the swing- she seemed to like it!

She IS absolutely adorable! Love that hat! (though of course I'd have to say she's a tie with Abby for cutest baby girl ever!)
