Caroline's birthday party

We had a great big bash for Caroline's third birthday. It was our first real big party in Madison... now that we have a big enough space to have friends over and aren't wholly consumed with newborns.

We invited all of our friends and it was a serious toddler-fest! We have a couple of playgroups that we have taken Caroline to for a while, so she has a bunch of friends almost exactly her age. So it was fun to watch all of the little three year olds running around all over the place.

I think she was more excited for her party than for her actual birthday (which was the day before). We had lots of great food (thank you, Costco... I did not cook) and mimosas and an awesome poodle cake that Mike's mom got and everyone loved.

We started the party inside, but once it warmed up, we ventured out. And it turned out to be one of the first truly gorgeous spring days! We were SO lucky! The kids were all running around and the adults were just standing in the sun. I was even in a t-shirt. In March! So fantastic!

Our friends brought a bouncy house that they own- I forgot how big it was. It was the HIT of the party! The kids had such an awesome time.

We're so thankful for our wonderful friends. And Caroline was happy that many of them ignored the no-gifts rule...

A couple of funny things Caroline said that day:

Looking at a "happy birthday" banner over the doorway, she said, "Mama, does that say 'protest'?" HA HA HA! Clearly we've been single minded in Wisconsin these days :)

When someone wanted a ball she had, she said, "You can't have that. *You're* not the *birthday girl*!" Oh, such a princess already. Watch out!
