Baptism

We baptized the twins this weekend. My mom came to join us in the festivities. She made a baptism gown and two capes for the girls to wear. Julianne wore the baptism gown that my grandmother made, which was worn by my mom, me and Caroline. Mirabelle wore a gown that was made from her great grandma Caroline's wedding dress with pieces of lace from Jane's wedding gown. Julianne had a cape that was made from my mom's wedding dress. And Mirabelle's gown was made from Jane's wedding dress. It was really just so lovely. These dresses and gowns were really works of art- so thanks to my mom for making them, and for Jane for helping her plan it out, and to all of them for turning their wedding gowns into family heirlooms which will be passed down for generations (I hope!).

The baptism was at St.Bernard's church here in Middleton during a Sunday mass. There were six kids total being baptized, including another set of twins! And, amusingly enough, the priest was a twin too! So he kept making funny comments throughout. Mike's brother Joe and sister-in-law Lisa were godparents for both girls. We were also happy to run into our neighbors, Conrad and Mary at the ceremony.

Julianne cried for most of the ceremony and wouldn't be hushed. I spent some time in the crying room with her. But when we went up to the alter, she really wailed. Oh well. One of them was bound to, right? Mirabelle was good natured, for the most part.

After the ceremony, we came back to our house for a little family party. Mike's brothers Joe and John, and his aunt Pat and Uncle Tom and their families came to join in the fun. We had inordinate amounts of food and really had a lot of fun!

With the twins before heading up the aisle to the alter. Amusingly, Mirabelle looks like the cranky one here, but she mellowed right out.
