We sold our house!!!! Well, almost...We just accepted an offer tonight. Just a bit lower than what we paid for it 3 years ago, which is the best we could expect in this market. And without any realtors, on our side or theirs, so ZERO commission. Mike is a master negotiator- cutting out the waffling and getting us all to agree pretty quickly.
The closing date is May 21. Yikes- that's like 6 weeks away! The plan from there is to rent a truck and drive all of our worldly belongings to Madison. Maybe we'll take our time, visit some sights along the way... We're thinking of subletting in Madison for the summer, which might be a bit of a pain for Mike, who will have to commute to his job in Milwaukee (he's hoping to transfer his job there- still waiting for a confirmation on that). But in the long run, we'll see if he can work remotely most of the time, or else we may end up moving to Milwaukee or somewhere in between. We'll just have to see...
I have to say, it is really, really strange to have your life go from 'totally in-limbo', stressful mode to 'happy day-- let's plan!' mode overnight. We're both elated, particularly because the house could have sat on the market forever or not sold for a price we could/would accept. Then we'd be pretty grumpy.
But I think we're both also feeling some level of remorse. We LOVE this house. It has been an amazing first home- just enough projects to keep us busy without driving us crazy. Such a great location near the subway and the beach. A big yard where Mike could experiment with the garden and get mad when the squirrels ate it all. And the nursery, with the mural... it absolutely breaks my heart to leave it. This place just feels like home. It's where we started our family together. We bought it before we were even married (by about a month), and its the only home Caroline has ever known. It will be so sad to say goodbye to it.
To all of our Wisconsin family and friends out there- Can't wait to join your ranks and see you all much more often! To all of our Boston friends- We hate to go, we'll miss you so, but come visit us! And to my mom- sorry, I know you were holding out hope for us to land in Cali. Mike's offer still stands :)
